Provide technical leadership for the development and procurement of substrates and substrate vendors for existing and new vendors for the substrates commodity in the Sensors Value Stream in the Medtronic Diabetes Business Unit in Northridge, LA. This position is being created to develop sourcing engineering to support the sourcing and development of our vendor base to support the quality, delivery and cost requirements of the business unit. This is critical position with a critical commodity upon which the entire sensor platform is based. This position is also slated to grow aggressively in eventually managing the commodity entirely with business level responsibilities added on in the future.


This individual will engage with cross functional teams in Diabetes like RD, Mfg, Quality and Regulatory to ensure that the substrates are manufactured and delivered by Vendors with required level of quality. This position will work directly with vendors to develop and improve their processes that support the delivery of the substrates to support the business demands. Through subject matter expertise and previous experience working with vendors, the senior sourcing engineer will ensure that the vendors are manufacturing the substrates to a high capability and quality level. Partnering closely with Medtronic Diabetes supply chain, supplier quality and other key functional groups, this individual will work to identify ramp, improvement and efficiency efforts required at the vendor and then execute those efforts effectively to meet the quality and ramp demand numbers. In addition, this individual will also be responsible for working with RD for future substrate requirements and also support front end technology development followed by vendor selection for the next generation substrates.


**A DAY IN THE LIFE**


**** Provide subject matter expert on substrates from a component sourcing and future technology development for next generation substrates for the sensor platform


Responsible for defining, planning and execution of improvement projects for substrates, including process improvements and operational excellence improvements using DMAIC/six sigma/LEAN principles to drive high capability processes at high capacity


Responsible for developing vendors from a capability and capacity standpoint to ensure that the components are delivered to the requirements of Quality and quantity as required by the business unit


Manage Supplier Change Notice lifecycle and change management ECRs/ ECOs to ensure timely


closure of supplier and component hanges


Liaison with RD to develop next generation suppliers and technology for substrates for next generation platforms


Lead co-located teams with cross functional expertise leading different large scale projects


Report out on project status, vendor and component development strategies to cross functional peer teams and senior leadership.


The position is based in Northridge LA but will require to be onsite at the present substrate supplier for an initial period of 9-12 months in the Boston/Lowell , MA area.


**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:**


**IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, THE FOLLOWING BASIC QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME**


Bachelor degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience


**Nice to Have:**


Mechanical/ Materials/ Biomedical Engineering degree preferred.


Substrates are used to define components which involve thin film metal deposition or semiconductor manufacturing technology to develop micro and nano level thick metal layers in a controlled manner on different bases like glass, polyimide, etc.


Expertise on leading DMAIC/ six sigma/ Lean initiative to improve processes and operational efficiencies.


Expertise with performing validations associated including experience IQ/OQ/PQs, Gage RRs, TMVs, PFMEAs/DFMEAS,etc


Expertise with supplier quality management and/or managing and monitoring supplier quality


Direct experience managing and developing vendors


Understanding and previous knowledge of component/product development lifecycle in the regulated medical device industry is preferred


Understanding of the ISO13485 quality system requirements and application in the medical device environment is preferred


Understanding of strategies in developing vendors from a capacity growth and quality improvement is preferred


Direct experience with planning and developing complex projects with expertise leading and managing cross functional project teams (project planning experience strongly preferred )


Experience with managing supplier change management system preferred.


Very effective communication skills strongly preferred (includes good presentation skills and data based communication )
