In this exciting role as a Senior Reliability Engineer, you will be tasked with technical responsibility in planning and conducting reliability activities for all medical device product lines (current and new) at Medtronic Diabetes. Assignments will include conducting reliability activities including reliability target definition, generation of reliability requirements, reliability allocation, and reliability modeling. Support for reliability test planning, execution, and reporting, in collaboration with RD activities in these areas as needed, will be central to this role. This position assures the timely, accurate and independent evaluation of product performance prior to clinical studies or market release of product improvements and next generation products.

**A Day in the Life**


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


+ Serve as the Quality organizations representative for development of reliability goals and requirements within RD project teams

+ Analyze field data and leverage Design of Experiments methodology to identify principal failure modes and mechanisms driving reliability for a given product or system

+ Guide reliability allocation activities

+ Support development and usage of reliability tools

+ Prepare, execute, review, and approve reliability targets, reliability requirements, reliability test plans and reliability test reports.

+ Collaborate with RD teams on reliability growth and reliability demonstration test plans/reports for the introduction of new product designs and enhancement/evolution of current product designs.

+ Develop new test equipment and methodology to evaluate the reliability of new and existing products on both system level and component level.

+ Perform root cause failure analysis and troubleshooting (mechanical and electrical) for current and new products undergoing reliability and verification testing.

+ Participate on new and sustaining product development teams, acquire specific product knowledge, and contribute to the design reviews through identifying reliability issues and recommending design improvements.

+ May provide guidance to lower-level Reliability technical staff regarding their day-to-day responsibilities.

+ Develops, coordinates and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs.

+ Recommends design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability.

+ Completes risk analysis studies of new design and processes.

+ Compiles and analyzes performance reports and process control statistics; investigates and analyzes relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes.

+ Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards.

+ Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and governmental agency reliability objectives.

+ May develop mathematical models to identify units, batches or processes posing excessive failure risks.

+ As necessary, proposes changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability.

+ May determine units and/or batches requiring environmental testing, and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with 4+ years of experience in Engineering and/or Quality OR Advanced degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with 2+ years of experience in Engineering and/or Quality.


**Nice to Have**


+ Quality/Reliability Engineering experience in a regulatory environment (e.g., Medical, Aerospace, Automotive, Consumer Electronics, Defense).

+ Experienced with statistical analysis of data (e.g., MiniTab, Weibull ++, ALT, JMP, etc.).

+ 4+ years of engineering experience

+ Experience with HALT, DFMEA, Accelerated Life Testing, Risk Analysis, ORT, Reliability Growth, and/or Demonstration Testing

+ Advanced degree in engineering (M.S. or PhD)

+ Experience in medical device industry

+ Experience with writing and reviewing reliability requirements

+ Superior understanding of electromechanical devices, battery-powered devices, and/or electrochemical reactions.

+ Certification in Reliability and/or Quality Engineering

+ Proven success with management of engineering projects, including designing and executing complex reliability test flows

+ Demonstrated history of working effectively in cross-functional teams

+ Adept at various computational modeling packages (e.g., FEA, CFD, SolidWorks, PSpice)

+ Ability to work independently and with others as a member of a team.
