his position will provide technical leadership in materials science and engineering, including materials selection, problem solving, and applied research. The position will support the Global Operations Supply Chain Innovation team, focused on transformational change driving best in class performance.


This position will also influence materials strategy, identifying technologies and initiatives needed to develop cost-effective and reliable products capable of scaling with market growth. The appointed candidate will contribute to the execution of the strategies and actions to address those needs.


The individual will serve as a materials expert with a focus on metals and metal processing by leading and participating in technical activities for materials selection, processing, analysis, and process-property-performance relationships for medical devices.


**A Day in the Life**


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


As an expert in your professional discipline within the organization, you will serve as a materials expert by leading and participating in technical activities supporting Operations.


+ Possesses proven expertise in the following business critical skill sets:

+ Materials, including polymers, metals, electronics,and ceramics

+ Microscopy and failure analysis

+ Surface sciences and associated analytical techniques

+ Addresses challenging and complex problems within a project.

+ Drive material technology selection in alignment with Operating Units (OU) strategies, Technology Development Centers (TDCs) and external trends.

+ Proactively manage materials obsolescence to prevent business continuity impacts, including phase-in and phase-out (PIPO) product, material component strategies.

+ Participate in strategic functional initiatives identified by leadership and scout prospective material technology development projects to accomplish objectives.

+ Partner with the global manufacturing network, OUs, TDCs and strategically integrate best practices, and define/refine materials technology roadmaps.

+ Maintains a focus on quality, possesses the necessary drive and determination to promote the highest level of customer satisfaction, quality, reliability, performance, cost and development predictability.

+ Utilizes excellent communication skills, fosters an inclusive culture with sufficient credibility to discuss subject matter freely with all levels of management, project leaders, technical peers and junior colleagues alike.

+ Provides consulting and support for unplanned but critical needs.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience


**Nice to Have**


+ Comprehensive knowledge of mechanics of materials, metals processing technologies

+ knowledge of metallurgical failure analysis caused by stress and corrosion.

+ Expertise in microscopy and failure analysis, surface sciences plus associated analytical techniques.

+ Expertise in materials with the ability to identify and develop testing methods, correlate material properties with product performance and predict various failure modes.

+ Demonstrated ability to apply skills and knowledge of technical/operational theories and principles to resolve real-world biomaterials challenges.

+ Demonstrated ability to deliver quality technical work within project schedules and timelines.

+ Knowledge of Design, Reliability Manufacturability (DRM) and Six Sigma improvement methodology.

+ Knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
