**Primary Job Function:**

The Software Engineering Manager will have responsibility for the management and oversight of a team of software engineers who develop and support firmware, embedded, GUI and application software for stand-alone medical devices.You will be responsible for department processes, talent recruitment, performance and development, engagement and inclusion, resource planning and prioritizing and directing the responsibilities of your team. This position will report to the director of product development and be part of a department of engineers and technicians focused on capital equipment development.

**A Day in the Life**


+ Recruit, hire, evaluate, develop, and retain high performing personnel.

+ Ensure development projects are staffed to the agreed upon levels with the appropriate software talent.

+ Drive departmental excellence, proficiency, best practice and consistency across project teams.

+ Responsible for software configuration strategy, development tools, software risk management, deployment and post-market support. Establish operational objectives and provide technical direction and leadership.

+ Provide leadership in solving engineering problems and fostering creativity and innovation in design and problem solutions.

+ Responsible for software development procedures and guidelines, play a primary role in product security procedures.

+ Participate in product security activities including working group, secure storage, vulnerability assessments, periodic reviews, SBOM management and SME input on customer security questionnaires.

+ Work with direct reports to develop goals and objects that are aligned with business strategy, development projects and group initiatives. Hold your team accountable for their goals and objectives.

+ Accountable for the quality, robustness, predictability and completeness of the teams output, including tracking and reporting software quality metrics.

+ Accountable for your teams compliance with internal design controls and medical device regulations and standards such as FDA QSRs, IEC etc.

+ Responsible for assessment of individuals and the teams needs and gaps. Establish and execute plans for the career development of each individual and the continuous improvement of team.

+ Anticipate the need for new development tools, methods, technologies and processes.

+ Engage with direct reports on their career development aspirations.

+ Provide scoping and cost estimates for upcoming projects.

+ Engage with and oversee 3rd party software design partners as needed.

+ Prepare team members for certification and regulatory audits. May represent the teams work in audits.

+ May have budget accountability for your department.

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelors degree required in Engineering or related.

+ Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

+ Miniumum of 3 years in technical or project leadership roles.

**Nice to Have**

+ BS or MS in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.

+ Minimum of 5 years of embedded software development experience.

+ Experience in software development in a regulated industry.

+ Competent in software development processes including design methodologies, requirements development, source code management, build management, quality process, requirements-driven development, and the defect tracking and resolution process.

+ Solid communication, presentation, technical writing and organizational skills.

+ 10 years of experience in the design and development of software design solutions.

+ Experience in direct management of software engineers.

+ Understanding of the software development life cycle and IEC 62304.

+ Medical device industry experience ISO 14971, ISO 13485.

+ Product security experience.

+ Experience with internal and outsourced projects.

+ Technical experience with driver development, motor control, pressure and position sensing, energy delivery control, GUI design, wired/wireless communications.

+ Solid working knowledge of quality and regulatory requirements for class II medical devices containing software and product security solutions.

+ Experience with prioritization, project management and team building.

+ Experience in a matrixed organization.
