**A Day in the Life**


The Senior Systems Engineer, New Product Developmentis accountable for the development and timely delivery of systems engineering documentation for Medtronic Surgical Robotics Advanced Instrumentation products. The successful candidate will work with a cross functional team to perform functional decompositions, develop customer and product requirements, and document system and subsystem architectures. She or he will contribute to the planning, execution, and documentation of trade-off studies, prototype evaluations, and clinical acceptability studies.


**You will:**


+ Report to the Principal Systems Engineer and Project Technical Lead within the Systems Center of Excellence of the Surgical Robotics RD division

+ Translate user needs and marketing inputs to customer requirements

+ Perform functional analysis and decomposition, develop and manage product requirements, document system and subsystem architecture

+ Engage with design quality assurance in risk management activities including preliminary hazard analyses and risk mitigation strategies

+ Employ Model Based Systems Engineering best practices to document and communicate system design

+ Oversee, and be deeply acquainted with, regulated development processes and standards for risk management, usability, and safety to ensure systems design and documentation meet relevant safety and regulatory standards

+ Hands-on work with the Robotic System to evaluate user facing behavior


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience


**Nice to Have**


+ Deep knowledge of Systems Engineering principals and best practices

+ Advanced degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering

+ Minimum of 2 years experience as a contributing member of engineering projects

+ Strong communication skills

+ Expertise in new product development

+ Experience developing complex electromechanical medical devices

+ Strong grasp of design controls and good documentation practices

+ Knowledge of standards including IEC 60601, ISO 14971, ISO 13485 and 62366

+ Strong organization acumen with the ability to communicate effectively to non-technical audiences

+ Demonstrated ability to collaborate and contribute to a cross functional product development team

+ Experience in requirements management, risk management, and system architecture documentation

+ Proven track record contributing to products of high complexity in a regulated environment

+ Experience working with multiple teams on concurrent, interdependent projects

+ Solid understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.)

+ Demonstrated skills in self managing priorities

+ Fluency in English required

+ Based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA or North Haven, CT, USA

+ Infrequent travel may be required
