**A Day in the Life**


Join a fast-paced robotics development team in our office
in Boston, MA. The Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer is an experienced veteran
and technical leader who will guide and mentor hardware development teams on Medtronics
next-generation surgical robotics platform.The ideal candidate has a long background in medical device capital
equipment design and is well versed in design for EMC, digital and analog
circuit design and test, motor control, robotics and high-speed digital
communication.Superlative communication
skills are essential to the role, as well as prior experience with formal verification
and validation testing from engineering requirements.


**Youwill be responsible for:**


+ Electromechanical hardware design and development

+ Establish strong relationships with engineering teammembers.

+ Conceptualization, design and test of electrical componentsfor communicating with and controlling a complex mechatronic system.

+ Circuitry will involve a mix of custom digital(microprocessor / DSP / FPGA), analog (op-amp, current sensing, filtering), andpower electronics circuit design, as well as off-the shelf equipment.

+ Collaborate with software engineers to develop requirementsand perform hardware / software integration.

+ Develop, document, and execute test procedures andprotocols.

+ Analyze issues to determine root cause.

+ Interface with systems engineers to define or updaterequirements.

+ Interface with quality engineers to prepare documentation,maintain records, and release reports.

+ Support contract manufacturer with troubleshootingproduction equipment.


**Requirements:**


**Must Have:**


+ Bachelorsdegree, or Masters degree


**Niceto Have** :


+ Bachelorsdegree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics or related field required, Mastersdegree preferred

+ 20+ years of experience as an engineer

+ Digitaland analog hardware design: Prior experience with custom digital(microprocessor / DSP / FPGA), analog (op-amp, current sensing, filtering), andpower electronics circuit design, as well as off-the shelf equipment.

+ Familiaritywith design/development of capital medical devices

+ Significanthistory with IEC60601-1 including electrical safety and EMC testing

+ Priorhistory of product development from concept through launch and transfer-to-manufacturing

+ Strongexperience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors

+ Experiencewith sensors such as Encoders, Hall Effect Sensors, Torque, and Load Cells

+ Experiencewith Ethernet, USB, serial communication busses

+ Familiaritywith QNX and Linux operating systems

+ Seasoneduser of electronic design tools, e.g., OrCAD and Allegro.

+ Troubleshootingand debugging skills: root cause investigations / driving corrective action

+ Designfor cost / manufacturability
