**POSITION SUMMARY:**


The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer (Sr. Mfg. Eng) responsibilities include but not limited to support various manufacturing sites for Covidien devices. This includes being the project lead in cost savings, redesigns, manufacturing process improvements, instrument trouble shooting, and product line transfers.


The Sr. Mfg. Engineer will not only need to follow but to develop new companys best practices and standard procedures


The Sr. Mfg. Engineer must be able to communicate technically with various suppliers for Covidien to support troubleshooting, supplier development programs and tooling replacement programs to ensure quality components will continually be received timely at the manufacturing sites.


The Sr. Mfg. Engineer will need to work closely with Quality Assurance, Sales, Marketing and the final customer to troubleshoot field complaints and to help troubleshoot potential instrument issues.


**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**


Manufacturing and Project Engineering lead for activities in accordance with standard operating procedures


Key participant in DFMEA, PFMEA, and CTQ processes assuring specifications are well defined and documented.


Assure production requirements are achieved for component and assembly tooling specifications, supplier selection, and qualification.


Conceptual leader for technology advances associated with tooling and process development.


Communicate and coordinate activities with multiple functional groups both within and outside of operations


20% travel to manufacturing sites and supplier visits required. (International and domestic).


**A Day in the Life**


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


+ Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.

+ Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.

+ Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

+ Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.

+ May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.

+ Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.

+ Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.

+ Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

+ Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Dynamic, positive attitude


Strong communication, manufacturing process, product industrialization and leadership skills


Solid design, troubleshooting and presentation skills


Strong project management skills


Well versed in molding, stamping and machining methods


Experience in assembly equipment technologies


Working Knowledge of Six Sigma


Working knowledge of GDT


Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, and Risk Tools


Working knowledge of DFA/ DFM principles


Strong computer skills


EDUCATION:


BS Engineering or Equivalent


WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:


Usual office environment with frequent* sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, stooping and occasional* climbing.


Frequent* use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling use of office machinery.


Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.


Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally* and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.


*Occasional:Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.


*Frequent: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
