Research and Innovation Engineer responsible for the development of technologies and product concepts used in Transcathether Heart valve replacement therapies. Primarily focused on the development of technologies and concepts related to the Heart valve Implant.


Will feed the product development pipeline with technologies and concepts through the execution of new technology and innovation projects. Will ensure that those concepts can be successfully transferred to Product Development and to Manufacturing.


Activities will include heart valve frame design, prototyping, testing, and some process development, tooling design/fabrication, equipment design/fabrication, project management, failure risk analysis,.


**Position Overview:**


Implant Design


Development of technologies and concepts of new transcatheter heart valves based on user requirements specifications.


Under guidance from engineering colleagues, generates new device concepts and product specifications. Ensures review of existing research, device concepts and data. Identifies areas that require additional investigation.


Create and utilize models and finite element analysis to inform design iterations and testing conditions.


Implant Prototyping Testing


Prototypes transcatheter heart valves.


Develops tooling and test equipment for manufacturing processes. Examples of pertinent duties include creating CAD drawings, equipment modeling, and specifications development.


Implant Characterization


Creates, validates and performs test methodologies supporting design characterization


Performs data analysis (statistical and practical) and develops appropriate action plans based upon such analysis.


**A Day in the Life**


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


+ Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development.

+ Designs studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise.

+ May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials.

+ Translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience


**Nice to Have**


Degree in Mechanical, Materials or Biomedical Engineering


Specific knowledge of Domestic and International standards for Cardiac Valve prosthesis.


Operator/Technician Supervisory Skills


Design and testing of implantable heart valve frames


Understanding of anatomical use and boundary conditions


Knowledge of United States and International regulatory requirements (medical device, general), GMPs and industry standards/guidelines


Knowledge of implantable materials and associated manufacturing processes for fabricating prototypes


Experience with modeling and Finite Element Analysis


Nitinol design, manufacturing, and testing skills


Failure analysis experience


Computer Skills: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint; LabVIEW, Matlab


Excellent verbal and written communication


Custom instrumentation and laboratory automation


Project management and planning
