Our growing Structural Heart business is seeking an experienced product development Principal RD engineer to join our team. In this role, you will carry out the development and geographic indication expansion of transcatheter heart valve technologies within Medtronics CSH Business Unit.


A Day in the Life:


Develop a thorough understanding of the Disease States and Product Therapies offered in the Structural heart business.


Manage the development of new products for transcatheter valves and structural heart technologies that meet patient and customer needs.


Provide support to Product Development Core Teams and/or lead RD extended teams to generate deliverables and advance products through the product development process (PDP.)


Lead the development and validation of test methodology to conduct material, component, and finished device level testing to demonstrate achievement of development and regulatory requirements.


Conduct verification testing per approved protocols and document in accordance with applicable development regulatory requirements.


Utilize Predictable Product Development (PPD) and Design for Reliability Manufacturability (DRM) best practices in the product development process.


Prepare regulatory submission-ready documentation for the FDA and other regulatory bodies.


Support multiple projects within the product development group.


Support commercial launch and post launch activities including limited clinical case support.


Perform root cause investigations of identified product failure modes.


Work under the minimal supervision of a more experienced engineer or engineering manager.


Interface with physicians to distil their needs into product requirements and concepts (VOC.)


Serve as the Core Team Member (CTM) on various product development teams.


Lead a small design team / extended team.


Develop design development plans to achieve project goals.


Direct completion of specific verification/validation testing and analyses required to satisfy both regulatory and internal Medtronic requirements.


Direct the activities of technicians to ensure project milestones are completed correctly and on schedule.


Support CAPA / continuous improvement or manufacturing improvement efforts representing the RD function.


Coach and mentor junior level engineers.


Interface professionally various levels of CSH and CVG Leadership teams, along with consultants and customers.


Generate and document invention disclosures to secure intellectual property on therapies, procedures, and associated devices.


Required:


B.S. in relevant engineering field, preferably Biomedical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, with 7+ years of experience in implantable medical device NDP / product development.


Advanced degree with 5+ years of experience in implantable medical device NPD / product development.


A strong verbal and written communicator, fluent in English.


Possess strong statistical knowledge


Familiar with basic lab equipment.


PC experience (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.).


Nice to Have:


8+ years of Cardiovascular device product development experience.


Strong familiarity with interventional cardiology clinical procedures / practices.


Strong familiarity with development Core Team organizational structure.


Strong familiarity with the phase-gate / Product Development Life Cycle process.


Extensive customer interaction experience.


PMP Project Management Certification.


Demonstrated ability to influence those that do not directly report to them in order to achieve results.


Extensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.


Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks.


Hands on experience with laboratory testing methods and fluid flow measurements.
