In this exciting role as a **Principal Design Quality Engineer Sustaining Products** , you will be responsible for the successful implementation of projects and management of activities to define, design, develop and deliver new processes, quality improvement and change initiatives.


This role reports into **Enabling Technologies** , part of the **Cranial Spinal Technologies** operating unit, which develops life-restoring therapies and healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.


**Enabling Technologies** delivers an innovative portfolio which include robotics, navigation, intra-operative imaging, advanced energy devices, cerebral spinal fluid management and critical care.


**A Day in the Life/ Responsibilities:**


+ Contributes to design assurance activities in support of sustaining activities for electromechanical systems that utilize microcontroller technology, customized/off the shelf PCBs and software applications

+ Participates in identifying failure modes as part of the risk management activities, and leads risk management file updates in partnership with cross functional teams

+ Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality standards and protocol for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

+ Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.

+ Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.

+ Designs or specifies inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.

+ Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

+ May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements (Must be evident on your resume)**


+ Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with

+ 7+ years of work experience in new product development, sustaining, or VV Engineering and/or Quality Engineering


OR


+ Advanced degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with

+ 5+ years of work experience in new product development, sustaining, or VV Engineering and/or Quality Engineering


**Preferred skills and experience**


+ Medical device experience; specifically experience with capital equipment and/or electromechanical equipment

+ Experience with ISO 14971, hazard analysis, and/or FMEAs

+ Experience working with suppliers and/or contract manufacturers

+ Strong analytical skills

+ Excellent communication skills

+ Ability to work effectively within team and across functions

+ High degree of initiative and self-motivation

+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy

+ Excellent organization skills: ability to successfully balance and prioritize multiple ongoing projects/tasks
