The MITG Ops Robotics Team is seeking to fill a Principle Mechanical Engineering position in the Robotics Margin Enhancement, reporting to the Director of Robotics, Margin Enhancement. This team is responsible for driving strategies to deliver substantial cost down projects on the new Robotics platform as it launches and goes through production scale-up. These products are made at several Contract Manufacturers [CMs].


This group is responsible for design simplification, part count reduction, consolidation of suppliers. Supports transfers to new lower cost suppliers. Drives end of life management and larger re-engineering of sub system updates with Research and Development.


Responsibilities include cost oversight, process and material optimization, change management leadership, and point of contact in interfacing with various contributing organizations, Contract Manufacturers, Vendors, Supply Chain, Management, RD, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations Engineering.


**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:**


Identifies, in conjunction with leadership, design deficiencies / opportunities and recommends solutions.


Leads or supports initiatives in all product manufacturing aspects: Cost reduction, quality improvement, Service/Repair, End Of Life management, Process Improvement, Documentation.


Develops and actively utilizes project charters, project calendars, task lists, meetings agendas and objectives, over the course of projects assigned.


Documents and analyzes information and data as needed to make programs successful and communicate with a wide variety of audiences


Identifies and works to remove barriers that slow or prevent the successful completion of projects and portfolios assigned to. Actively enlists leadership and as needed to assist with barriers.


Creates and maintains excellent working relationships within the teams assigned, and across Medtronic functions and departments.


Provides Design for Manufacturability guidance to RD Engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.


Uses statistical techniques to compile and analyze data and realize appropriate improvement initiatives. Improve productivity and optimize process capability through technical assessment and analytical challenge


Works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to coordinate product changes.


Manages Design changes and Validation activities.


Statistical Review of data


Establish part metrology and requirements


Global travel required to support vendor base and Medtronic locations


Project Management of projects to include Time Line, Budgets, Execution, Training, and Risk assessments


Communication and Presentation skills required / be the lead translator for communications documentation


Participate in Value Engineering actives, understand function value analysis and participate in future state planning.


**Summary:**


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


- Cross functional meetings focused on design simplification and changes to reduce overall costs


- Planning with RD, service, production phased introductions to minimize obsolescence costs as new designs are introduced


- Meeting with RD sub-system team to VAVE, alternative suppliers, process and materials to minimize costs


- Project plan review on milestone achieved, risk analysis and associated mitigations to maintain project schedule.


**A Day in the Life**


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


+ Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.

+ Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.

+ May be responsible for the transfer from RD to manufacturing.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience


**Nice to Have**


BS degree in Engineering or scientific/technical discipline.


Experience:


- Experience Mechanical engineering and Design. Experience working in the robotics industry. Proven ability to cost down complex electro-mechanical assemblies. Must have a solid understanding of Mechanical - Engineering, Project Management, tolerance analysis, materials and process.


- Project Management from concept to delivery.


- Ability to prepare written policies, procedures, proposal, and reports.


- Well versed in Design for Excellence (DFX) Principles.


- Knowledgeable in risk management methodologies such as DFMEA and PFMEA.


- Medical Device Regulations.


**WORK ENVIRONMENT:**


Standard office setting, clean room, model shop, supplier visits plus approximately 25% domestic and international travel as required.
