The Communications Principal is an important member of the team who will be responsible for leading and supporting highly visible communications initiatives including internal and external communications for the Diabetes Operating Unit to help promote, enhance, and protect the organization's reputation. This individual will support internal and executive communications for key senior leaders driving thought leadership, employee engagement and change management for these functions. This role will also help drive highly visible external communications initiatives including media and public relations efforts as well as issues and crises management.

**A Day in the Life**

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

+ Develop communications strategies for senior functional leaders and drive seamless execution of tactics that ladder up to the strategy a hands on and detailed communicator who has a knack for writing

+ Lead development of compelling communications tailored for different stakeholders, leveraging various multimedia formats and channels to break through with messages that stick

+ Mine for compelling stories and content that can be pulsed out across channels with a focus on visual storytelling through multimedia components

+ Support media relations activities including assisting with product/service launches and campaigns, and developing responses to address media inquiries in a timely manner

+ Support crisis communications planning and development of issues management materials as needed

+ Partner with brand team to ensure all materials meet brand and style guidelines; ensure materials are approved through applicable approval processes

+ Partner with executive social media team to develop relevant content as needed on both a proactive and reactive basis

+ Partner with Group Internal Communications lead to support the development of internal communications materials as needed, including functional leader communications, organizational announcements, bios, town hall slides, and intranet articles

+ Ensure effective collaboration across regions, functions and business units (know how to navigate a highly matrixed environment)

+ Work closely with regional communications partners to ensure coordination of activities by participating in bi-weekly calls and proactively sharing key updates as appropriate

+ Monitor industry news, synthesize for relevance to business and articulate key insights to team

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelors Degree and 7+ years work experience in Public Relations and/or internal/external Communications or 5+ years with an advanced degree

**Nice to Have**

+ 3 years of experience leading projects/programs, initiatives and/or people

+ Experience in healthcare (i.e. medical device, pharma or biotech)

+ 7+ years of leadership/managerial work experience or training in public relations, corporate communications, journalism, or related field

+ Experience in diabetes or regulated industry

+ Knack for visual and creative storytelling

+ Experience in design and visual mediums (PowerPoint, infographics, still images, video) a plus

+ Experience in creating/developing public relations/communications strategies or plans

+ Excellent oral communications and presentation skills

+ Excellent research, writing and editing skills

+ Strong project management skills

+ Team player with a positive attitude and ability to work cross-functionally in a large, highly matrixed organization

+ Possess an outstanding attention to detail and has a strong bias for action and sense of urgency around execution

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
