Medtronic Diabetes is looking for a Principal Level Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, documentation and test of the electronics in smart pens and caps with digital and RF circuits for battery-operated microcontroller/microprocessor based medical devices. In this exciting role you will also lead the design and development of automated test systems or subsystems for testing the devices described above in both laboratory and manufacturing test environments.
You will lead the electrical engineering function on projects, representing the function within the Product Development Core teams, generating electrical hardware requirements, electrical system design, electronic circuit design, developing test requirements and test procedures as well as PC-based simulation and data acquisition. Qualified candidates are able to write detailed electrical specifications, generate and review design documentation, test specifications and test reports in compliance with design control procedures. **A DAY IN THE LIFE:**
Lead the design, development and test of hardware of commercialized medical devices and automated test systems
Participate in and direct engineering teams that design high reliability microprocessor based systems including architectural tradeoffs, digital/analog/RF circuits, and ultra-low power battery circuits.
Work closely with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing and other science/engineering disciplines to achieve project schedules and goals.
Serve as an organizational spokesman on advanced projects and/or programs. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
Evaluate and select components, generate component specifications, as well as functional and test specifications
Work with outside test labs for certification to IEC-60601 and other relevant standards
Research and implement state of the art technologies to enhance product features, improve reliability and device size (electronics miniaturization), optimize manufacturing throughput and lower cost
Implement Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) principles within the functional area
Support Manufacturing in troubleshooting operations involving medical devices through assembly and test
Provide technical assistance to other functional departments such as Product EngineeringQuality, Reliability and Manufacturing
Self-starter, capable of driving projects forward with minimal oversight
**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**
**BASIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
**IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, THE FOLLOWING BASIC QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME**
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
**NICE TO HAVE:**
MS Electrical Engineering
8 or more years in one or more of the following: medical device design, ultra-low power battery operated systems, embedded microcontroller/microprocessor system design
5+ years experience in the testing and assembly of digital, power and RF circuit design for embedded microcontroller systems
Strong knowledge of formal PCBA documentation (schematics, PCB fabrication drawings, PCB assembly drawings)
Strong knowledge of state of the art PCB fabrication technology (SMT, BGA, blind and buried microvia, flex circuits, etc.) and assembly
Experience supporting engineering teams in the design and development of electronics hardware and software for products and test equipment
Working knowledge of LabView or similar automated test software
Experience with creating optimal strategies, schedules and plans towards the development of electronic systems
Strong experience in technical report writing and presentations
Fundamental knowledge of other related disciplines towards the understanding of how they affect electrical systems
Basic laboratory instruments and tools experience (e.g. DMM, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer)
Ability to work in a team environment; strong collaboration skills
Effective verbal and written communication
Knowledge of schematic design and layout using CAD tools for PCB design such as OrCAD, Cadence Allegro and/or Altium Designer
Knowledge of manufacturing test equipment design
Knowledge of the implementation of standardized radios such as Bluetooth Low Energy
Experience working with vendors and contract manufacturers for PCB fabrication and assembly
