**Principal Mechanical Design Automation Engineer**

The Principal Mechanical Design Automation (MDA) Engineer is a leader in the design environment group within the Device Development Solutions organization, which is housed within the Cardiac Implantables Technology Development Center (TDC). This position is responsible for developing and executing mechanical computer aided design (CAD) and product data management (PDM) environment initiatives across the TDC and across Medtronic.Core knowledge includes the primary aspects of creating and maintaining essential product design information.Primary responsibilities include administering and supporting mechanical design tools and associated PDM environments, and participating in projects related to the definition, planning, validation, and delivery of MDA environments across the enterprise. This includes environments that enable design fidelity, efficiency, and quality outcomes for mechanical design and PDM. Additional responsibilities include assisting continuous development of CAD and PDM strategies, expansion of PDM tools through data migrations and user training, and supporting user best practices.This position requires a self-starter and someone who can work effectively in a distributed team environment, with good presentation, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills. The position will be based in Mounds View, MN.

**A Day in the Life**


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


+ Develops and applies computer aided design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems.

+ Assessing architecture and hardware limitations, plans technical projects in the design and development of CAD software.

+ Defines and selects new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications and design specifications and parameters.

+ Develops routines and utility programs.

+ Prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval.

+ May specify materials, equipment and supplies required for completion of projects and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience


**Specialized Knowledge Required**


+ 6+ years mechanical design and product development experience

+ 6+ years of experience with mechanical CAD applications (SolidWorks, CREO, etc.)

+ 6+ years of SolidWorks PDM/PTC Windchill and PDM Link administration or similar data management application experience

+ Experience administering application software on Windows server, SQL, Linux, and Windows

+ Self-starter with ability to work effectively in a distributed team environment

+ Good presentation, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills


**Nice to Haves**


+ Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferred

+ Solid understanding of the impact of regulations on CAD data management and administration

+ Excellent team facilitation, project management, motivational, and interpersonal skills; ability to interact and influence across organizations

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills and willingness to expend effort to meet schedules and deadlines

+ Ability to function well under pressure and remain flexible in an environment of rapidly changing priorities

+ Experience in requirements and risk management fundamentals

+ Medical device product development experience and a strong understanding of FDA regulations, ISO, and IEC standards
