As a member of the NPI Engineering group in the glucose sensor manufacturing group, the individual selected for this role will be responsible for product, process, and technology development activities of diabetes related products specifically to glucose sensors, and related accessories. The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a significant role in the ideation, design, development, Design and Process Characterization, and Design Verification activities of diabetes products. The individual will have the ability to contribute to developing manufacturing processes and technologies as new products are conceptualized.


The person filling this role will become part of a dynamic and fast paced manufacturing group with a strong history of successful product development. They will have the opportunity to interface with vendors and end customer, as well as various functional groups within the diabetes business unit and within several other Medtronic business units/facilities.


The ideal candidate for this position has experience in or aptitude to learn plastic part design as well as electromechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate has experience with component design and qualification, characterization, problem solving, mechanical assembly processes/procedures, plastic molded components, and process characterization. This individual has experience in medical devices and aptitude for taking customer feedback and product requirements translating them into meaningful engineering specifications and designs

**A DAY IN THE LIFE:**


Grow and maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to product development of diabetes devices and accessories.


Assist with Design, Development, and validation of new, novel diabetes management products.


Design, setup and run manufacturing equipment based on defined criteria


Perform calculations and analyses to verify the designs. Document results in summaries, laboratory notebooks and engineering reports.


Design, development and/or specification of electromechanical systems and related components.


Design, development and/or specification of semi-automated assembly equipment for both medium and high volume products


Process engineering change orders.


Engage in product and design development activities of diabetes management products.


Perform process characterization, design verification, and Test Method Validation (TMV) activities.


Works closely with sr. level team member to interact closely with vendors to support current products and initiate new production projects and assists in developing processes/techniques to meet contract objectives.


Travel to vendor locations and manufacturing sites as needed to help ensure programs meeting deadlines and troubleshoot issues.


Grow and maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to product development of diabetes devices and accessories.


Document results in reports and laboratory notebooks.


Design and develop or evolve components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion, and related processes. Work with manufacturing to consider high volume assembly processes in design concepts.


Help ensure designs meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards.


Help develop specifications, test methodologies, and test equipment to evaluate design concepts.


Perform calculations, analyses, and engineering testing to verify the designs. Document results in reports and laboratory notebooks.


Create and release engineering drawings, written procedures, and Bill of Materials.


Process engineering change orders.


Work with suppliers to ensure components meet design requirements diagnose design problems.


Collaborate with other departments within Medtronic on development projects.


Present technical findings or project status to cross functional teams and management through meeting minutes, design reviews, presentations and other means of communication.


Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.


May be responsible for the transfer from RD to manufacturing.


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


**BASIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

Bachelors degree required


Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience


**NICE TO HAVE:**


Solidworks experience and proficiency


Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects


Experience creating technical, written content


Demonstrated data analysis skills


Accomplished in AutoCAD and SolidWorks


Ability to interpret technical drawings and creating Bill of Materials


Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills


Strong interpersonal skills


Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and methodologies


Effective problem-solving skills


High degree of initiative and self-motivation


Experience solving ambiguous problems


Experience in product design and development in a manufacturing environment


Experience in plastic part design and injection molding
