The Engineering Manager will provide strategic technical leadership of the Medtronic Neuromodulation Biocompatibility and Combination Products functional group. The groups mission is to collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop biocompatibility strategy for market release product, new product development and technology programs, providing insight, gap assessments and verification reports in accordance with international standards such as ISO10993 and European medical device regulations (EU MDR). The team also has a strong focus on drug and device materials interactions in support of the targeted drug delivery business.

**Day in the life:**

Lead a group whose primary functions are used in neurostimulators, implantable infusion systems and their components and delivery tools.

Organizes the coordination of deliverables and project activities with internal functional partners, suppliers, contract laboratories and consultants to ensure timely delivery.

Scope work for the team and collaborate with internal and external industry leaders to support and develop solutions for combination product therapies.

Coordinates and facilitates biocompatibility testing of materials and designs in accordance with regulatory requirements, internal SOPs and standards

Provide work direction, technical oversight, and professional development of individual engineers and technicians through mentoring and coaching.

Provide leadership to staff ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives to include defining performance goals and targets, conducting performance reviews, and staff 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals.

Support program leaders by understanding project needs, assigning appropriate staff to help, ensuring that goals and milestones are clear, and monitoring execution/performance.

Lead, organize and control planning for Annual Operating Plan (and longer term) expense budgets, capital expenditures and external partnership activities to ensure approved annual operating plans, programs, capital and expense budgets are achieved.

Form relationships with stakeholders in other functions such as design, quality, supply chain, operations and regulatory, and act as champion to give team assignments where individuals can most add value and achieve career goals.

Provide and maintain an environment that includes passion for the Mission, engagement in the business, technical excellence, and collaboration among team members.

Ensure that quality procedures are followed and ensure that procedures under the groups control are appropriate to the evolving needs of the business.

Provide critical review, of technical content, drive team for data-driven decisions and act as approver for technical reports.

Assist group in responding swiftly and diligently to emerging business needs, including those involving patient needs, product quality and continuity of supply.

Maintain a laboratory space as a safe work environment that is suited to the groups mission.

Monitor and facilitate training of staff as appropriate.


**Minimum Qualifications:**

Bachelors degree and 5+ years of experience.

Advanced degree and 3+ years of experience.


**Nice to Have:**

Bachelors degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Polymer Science with at least 7+ years of experience, or Advanced degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science with at least 5+ years of experience.

Excellent English written, spoken and presentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization and with external regulators.

Strong interpersonal and team skills.

Experience providing work direction and leadership to people and teams.

Proven track record of technical innovation and translation in the medical device space, in the form of projects completed, publications and patents.

Experience with drug and material interactions.

Six Sigma, Lean, Design for Reliability in Manufacturing and Design-of-Experiments methodologies.
